The March of Dimes Signature Chefs Auction and Iron Chef Competition at Canfield Casino

The glorious Canfield Casino was the backdrop for the March of Dimes Signature Chefs Auction and Iron Chef Competition last Tuesday as local chefs went head to head to help raise funds that protect babies in our community and beyond.

Angela Beddoe of Herlife Magazine and Joanne DiMarco, VP of Select Sotheby's International Realty and Cravings Columnist for Herlife Magazine served as Co-Chairs of the event along with Honorary Committee Co-Chairs Raymond Bryan and Rachel Uccellini who welcomed over 250 guests for a night of fabulous food including treats from Adirondack Winery, Chianti Il Ristorante, Gideon Putnam Resort, Heaven Hills Distilleries, Javiers Nuevo Latino, Jaylina’s Cakery and Café, Mazzone Hospitality, Mingle on the Avenue, The Inn at Erlowest, Orange Mango, The Mallozzi Family, The Wine Bar and Valente’s Restaurant.

After guests had a chance to place their bids and cross their fingers for their favorite silent auction items, everyone was seated in the ballroom as Dan Eaton from Cooking with Dan on YNN and Chad O'Hara from B. 95.5 serving as emcees for the evening and helped kick things off. The honoree of the evening, Mr. Harold Iselin of Greenberg and Traurig, was presented with the Distinguished Service Award for his many years of service to March of Dimes. Joined at the event by members of his family, Mr. Iselin spoke about his commitment to the March of Dimes organization and helped underline the importance of the work the organization does in his moving speech.

The live auction was next as auctioneer Bernie Brzostek wove his way through the tables coaxing bidders to raise their paddles. John Witt took home a weekend stay at the Inn at Erlowest, and the paddles were in the air for a private dinner from The Wine Bar.

We caught up with Honorary Co-Chair Rachel Uccellini, looking stunning in a floor length blue gown, who said "It was an honor to contribute to such an inspiring and steadfast mission. I applaud all of the chefs who participated, as well as the very dedicated staff at March of Dimes NENY Division, most notably Senior Community Director, Janice Nash."

In attendance that evening we spotted former announcer for all of the thoroughbred races for NYRA Tom Durkin, as well as John Burke, CEO Select Sotheby's International Realty, Dr. Amy Knoeller, Dr. and Mrs. Luke Rigolosi, Abraham and Angie Sultan, Dr. Marty Ferrillo and Dr. Radka Dooley, Mr. Kyle Kordich and Dr. Marianne Mustafa, Dr. and Mrs. David and Amy Strauss, Lois Celeste, and Denis Golnick, CEO MVP Healthcare.

Next up was the Iron Chef Competition, and competing this year was 2013 Winner Chef Fabrizio Bazzani of Chianti Il Ristorante, Chef Brian Bowden from Mingle on the Avenue, and Chef Ryan Huneau, the Corporate Executive Chef for Mallozzi Family, with Chef Dominic Colose of The Wine Bar sending his deep regrets at not being able to make it.

Chef Ryan Huneau went home a winner that evening after taking the top spot in the Iron Chef Competition, and Event Chair Angela Beddoe was thrilled with the turn out for the event. "It was a great night  benefiting babies and families with a culinary showcase of fine foods from Capital Region restaurants," Angela told us. "During the evening we had great silent auction and live auction prizes consisting of trips, jewelry and of course chef tastings. We topped off the event with an Iron Chef Competition featuring a mystery basket of food items that is always entertaining. Congratulations to Ryan Huneau from Mallozzi's for winning the Iron Chef Competition. The March of Dimes is a great organization and we are thankful for the outpouring of community support."
