What Would Gatsby Do?

Coming up on Saturday, May 30th, join supporters of The Wesley Community at the Saratoga Golf and Polo Club for A Black and White Affair – Gatsby Style presented by The Adirondack Trust Company. The evening will feature delicious food from Chef John Ireland at Saratoga Golf and Polo Club, décor from Fine Affairs, music from Funk Evolution, classic cars from The Saratoga Automobile Museum, a sundae bar featuring ice cream from Ben and Jerry’s of Saratoga, and photos against vintage backdrops provided by TapSnap. All of this vintage glamour will be put on to raise funds for The Wesley Community’s Springs building renovation.

In anticipation of this Gatsby themed bash, we've been thinking that Jay Gatsby would actually really love Saratoga Springs, and that got us wondering, What Would Jay Gatsby Do (in Saratoga)?

SHOP: For sure, you would spot Jay at Yoicks on Beekman Street, possibly having a drink with owner Michael Finney and swapping stories about horses. We can picture him choosing a new flask and some cufflinks, flipping through the tie selection wondering which one Daisy would prefer, and respectfully begging Michael to sell him the vintage Lilly Pulitzer tennis racket cover to surprise Daisy with.

He would definitely stop in the Pink Paddock and order one of everything from the latest season in Daisy's size to be sent over to her directly.

DRINK: When he feels like brooding, find Jay Gatsby in a dark corner of 9 Maple, nursing a stiff drink. When he's feeling like a party Jay might be on the veranda at Saratoga National with twenty five of his closest friends.

Don't be surprised if you bump into Jay at Tin and Lint. Sometimes it's the only place that will do.

TRACK: A box for sure. Maybe up at Turf Terrace at one of those tiny tables for two with a chilled bottle of champagne, waiting for Daisy, who is late. He is so preoccupied with her lateness he doesn't even notice that his horse just won.

DINE: 15 Church is a Gatsby spot for sure, we can also see him ordering oysters at Sperry's, clinking ice cubes around his empty glass.

HANGOUTS: Picking up a picnic basket at Putnam Market for a lunchtime liaison with Daisy at SPAC, bidding on horses at the summer sales at Fasig Tipton, strolling with Daisy through the roses at Yaddo.

PARTIES: Find Jay at the Yaddo summer benefit, playing ping pong with the artists in residence back at the clubhouse by the pool. Of course the White Party, because he has about eleven white suits perfect for the occasion, and the Saratoga Hospital summer auction and benefit would let him show off his big spender status and also his giving nature. Hopefully Daisy will be there to see his generosity. Afterward he'll slink off to the Lodge and hope Daisy will follow him there.

The Palamountain benefit is a surefire Jay Gatsby spotting opportunity, he'll be watching the polo match solo, surreptitiously checking his phone every few minutes for a text.

The Saratoga Golf and Polo Club would be the perfect backdrop for Jay, which is why it's the perfect spot for the Black and White Affair on May 30th. To reserve your tickets before they sell out, click here.
