We finally made it beyond the gates at Villa Balsamo yesterday and in about five minutes fell in love with this stunning 14.5 acre property off of Route 50 and its charismatic owners. You don't even need to leave your car to feel the presence of a long, rich history at this estate, situated just between Saratoga and Ballston Spa. We would have happily walked the grounds all afternoon chatting with owner Joe Balsamo's son Ralph about their vision for Villa Balsamo's future & hear about the people who have been through since his father purchased the property in 1976. As Ralph described their plans to transform the home (built from 1929-1931) into a year-round restaurant, banquet facility and ultimately a B & B (or affectionately, a JB & B), his passion & commitment to the legacy of the property & welcoming the upstate community in it were quite moving.
We will be sharing this post in two parts with you, today's gives you a look around through the lens of our talented Megan Mumford and then later we will be back with details on what locals can expect from this one of a kind venue and what Ralph tells us he will be doing in the kitchen..
