The Saratoga Six: Sarah Kathleen Parker Ward
Six inquisitive questions with Saratoga’s most interesting people.
By Alyssa McClenning
Delightful, elegant, smart, encouraging... Sarah Kathleen Parker Ward, of Kathleen Palmer Media, is all of these things. When she’s not advising clients on social media or event strategy, she’s spending time with her family, including their two new, furry additions (more on them below). And, while Sarah is uniquely her own, we can’t help but think her doppelganger is Eleonora Sebastiani!
1. Tell us about your earliest Saratoga memory.
Nearly ten years ago, I’d surprised my now husband with a weekend trip to Saratoga to experience the races. I laugh when I think back on just how obtrusively touristy we must have been. As the fates would have it, almost five years later we visited again - fresh off a three-month backpacking trip through Kenya - and knew it was the time and place to put down roots.
2. The Saratoga Social was created to highlight the work of our local nonprofits. Which organization is most important to you?
Such a tough call! Might I give two? I’m a proud advocate for Planned Parenthood, especially our local clinic, because the staff are beyond outstanding in their level of thoughtfulness and dedication. I’m also an avid supporter of the cultural and historical resource that is The Hyde Collection. Though a bit north, we’re wildly fortunate to have access to such a dynamic and growing collection of art. It’s a truly handsome place to spend an afternoon for reflection or creative inspiration.
3. Which spot in town serves your favorite drink or dish?
Can I say Clarity Juice? Their Beetox is out-of-this-world delicious! I honestly didn’t know you could crave juice before trying theirs.
4. Dogs of the hour: Clark + Norton. You recently brought home to Saratoga two of the cutest, most enormous pups we’ve laid our eyes on. (We couldn’t get enough of this video posted to social media.) What’s their story?
My boys! Clark and Norton are 22-month old Saint Bernard brothers who hail from northern Minnesota and weigh in at a combined 337 pounds. I happened upon a rehoming ad for them online and it was, overwhelmingly, love at first site. My exceptionally thoughtful husband not only agreed to welcome them, but also made the 33-hour round-trip drive with me to bring them home. Clark is our stubborn troublemaker while Norton is our lovebug and, funny enough, their polar opposite personalities mirror our daughters’. Words cannot adequately express how lucky I feel to have them in our lives.
5. What's the first app/website you open in the morning?
Well, technically, my alarm – I’m one of those people who sets their alarm especially early only to then hit the snooze button three times. But really, it’s email: checking for client notes, Seth Godin’s daily blogpost, and news updates.
6. "I consider Saratoga's greatest hidden gem to be..."
Yaddo. No question! The history, the beauty, the magic. There’s just a very warm presence about the property, and I like to think Mrs. Trask is still especially adoring of the children who traipse around her gardens. Our family has spent many a memorable summer evening there picnicking.
