The Saratoga Six: Denise Dubois

The Saratoga Six: Denise Dubois
Six inquisitive questions with Saratoga’s most interesting people.

By Alyssa McClenning

With calendars booked full of parties and events, who are Saratogians suppose to turn to to help pull their looks together? Denise Dubois, owner of Complexions Salon & Spa, is a favorite choice. We recently caught up with the health enthusiast and proud mother of two (three if you count her black lab, Molly).

1. Tell us about your earliest Saratoga memory.

I rode horses starting at the age of 6. I rode English style and competed in the hunter’s division. I remember riding at the Saint Clements horse show when it was held in the center of the Oklahoma track. We stayed in the groom’s quarters near our horses so we were there bright and early to start the day.

2. The Saratoga Social was created to highlight the work of our local nonprofits. Which organization is most important to you?

My business and team at Complexions Spa proudly do a lot of work with the American Cancer Society’s Hope Club. We’ve been hosting the Hope Club’s Beauty and Wellness Event twice a year since 2013 which provides deserving event guests with spa services. We offer those touched by cancer amenities that pamper with a purpose including paraffin dip for hands, chair massages, herbal facials, and make up touch ups. We have also created the Serenity Spa at the American Cancer Society’s Hope Club, which offers support to cancer survivors, family and friends. Its programs and services reach thousands in the Capital Region and beyond.

We support Code Blue, BEST, Conservation Hall, Retired Thoroughbreds, Injured Jockey’s, Center for disability and many, many other local charities in Saratoga and the entire Capital Region. It’s important that we are giving back to the community that supports us.

3. Which spot in town serves your favorite drink or dish?
I love 15 Church - Susan makes a fantastic cocktail and Paul’s attention to detail is terrific. Another favorite spot is Prime at Saratoga National. The view is spectacular, and very soothing looking out over the greens. For lunch, I enjoy Boca Bistro and their wonderful olives and breads – they go nicely with a glass of wine. I look forward to trying Salt & Char, new neighbor on Broadway.

4. How do you prepare for attending summer events in Saratoga? How can Complexions Spa assist Saratogians with getting event ready?

I always have my hair done – either blown-out or put up – for summer events.  A fresh manicure and pedicure finishes off summer styles. For a special treat, I love having a facial with Dermaplaning to make my skin look silky smooth and follow it by airbrush make-p and eyelashes.

The Hair Design Studio at Complexions Spa has experienced stylists who can design a great look to go with a hat or fascinator for a day at the track. We also have airbrush makeup application, eyelash application, spray tanning, manicures and pedicures available – literally a one-stop-shop for getting ready for any event this summer.

5. What's the first app/website you open in the morning?

I check my phone for emails and texts related to work. You never know if anyone will call out sick and I’ll need to organize any changes quickly.

6. "I consider Saratoga's greatest hidden gem to be..."

I recently went on the walking tour of Saratoga’s mineral water springs and that was fascinating to learn all the century old history.
