It was pink and pretty at the Saratoga Race Course on Thursday, August 11th as the New York Racing Association welcomed guests to The Sizzling Hot Pink Saratoga Hat Luncheon. Always one of the highlights of the summer season, the popular lunch was presented by fashion powerhouse ESCADA to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation through Play for P.I.N.K. Guests entered the tent At the Rail Pavilion which was blissfully cool on the hot summer day & were greeted with pink glasses of bubbly, from sponsors Moet & Chandon.
The venue looked fantastic, expertly styled by the ESCADA team, who had their Fabulous Fillies Boutique set up and full of goodies, many of which are only available at this event, with 20% of the days shopping proceeds also going to benefit the BCRF. After some time to mingle and shop, guests took their seats as the program began, emceed by Breast Cancer fighter Mary Morin Carlin with remarks by NYRA CEO Christopher Kay, who also went on to introduce the event's honoree, Jessica Steinbrenner. Jessica, a philanthropist in the equestrian community who also runs Kinsman Stud Farm in Ocala, FL., was in attendance with her lovely daughters and spoke passionately about what it meant to be a female in the sport and setting an example for her girls as they grew up. In the audience were several of the events honorary chairmen, including Lisa Moser, Mary Gavin, Margie Rotchford (whose pink ribbon hat was our favorite of the day!), Audrey Schwartz, Sheryl Schwartz, Neil and Jane Golub, Michele Riggi, Patty Riggi and Theresa Elmore Behrendt. Other honorary chairs continue to read like a who's who of the Saratoga social scene and equestrian community including Joanne Adams, Julie Bonacio, Nancy DiCresce, JoAnn Oreffice, Debby Oxley, Judith Warsh, Sally Hill, Lynn LaRocca, Renee Lane, Jaynne Carr Keyes, Noel Harweth, Carol Famer and Irene Dizney.
While guests at this luncheon always come for the fun and fashion, the majority are also there specifically to hear from the day's keynote speaker, Dr. Larry Norton, the Scientific Director for BCRF, as well as the Medical Director at the Evelyn H Lauder Breast Center at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Having an opportunity to hear from Dr. Norton on the newest developments in winning the race against breast cancer and engage in a question and answer session with him is an opportunity not to be missed.
Attendees enjoyed their lunch, nibbling on cobb salad and pink cupcakes throughout the program, while models showcased some of ESCADA'S Pre-Fall and Fall/Winter 2016 collections. Spotted in the crowd were Teddy Foster, Eizabeth Harr, Phyllis Bynum, Charlene Courtney, Maria Harrison and Denise Dubois, as well as Tina Nigro, Chelsea Silver and Angela Beddoe.
We were delighted to hear that presenting sponsor ESCADA would be returning for next's year luncheon with Suzanne Humbert, CEO of ESCADA of the Americas saying “Now in our fourth consecutive year, we’re excited to continue this tradition to benefit such a meaningful cause, we truly value our partnership with NYRA and the BCRF and look forward to next year’s luncheon.”
