It's the time of year to 'Eat, Drink & be Merry' with some major emphasis on drink, esepcially this week with home holiday parties galore. But why not make sure you've got a little something ready for the non-drinkers at your party, beyond the usual seltzer or diet coke. Trust me, they will REALLY appreciate the thought and there's just something about having a yummy drink in hand to get you in the spirit of the season. I asked our friends at The Brook Tavern for some mocktail ideas and Jim was happy to oblige, mixing up two delicious conncotions your guests will ADORE.
Holiday Cider Punch
First, heat apple cider on the stove with a shake of cinnamon, star anise and cloves and cook it down until it reduces a bit and the flavor intensifies. This will also make your house smell AWESOME before a party. Let the cider cool and then serve over ice with a squeeze of fresh lemon and dash of maple syrup to taste, top with a splash of sparkling Saratoga water. Here Jim has gone the extra mile with a beautiful garnish of rosemary, granny smith apple and shake of cinnamon.
First make the ginger syrup which is super easy. Just take equal parts water and sugar and heat on the stove with some freshly grated ginger. Cook down until the mixture gets a syrup like consistency. Let cool. Fill a shaker with about 2/3 pomegranate juice, add some fresh basil, thinly sliced, ginger syrup to taste and shake. Pour over ice, top with sparkling Saratoga water, garnish with orange peel and serve.
