Six inquisitive questions with Saratoga's most interesting people
by Alyssa McClenning
If you say "fundraiser", she'll say "When?" and "How can I help?" No stranger to the Saratoga nonprofit scene, Erika Browne seamlessly sheds her corporate lawyer attire and slips into a party dress. Among her many commitments, she currently serves as president of the Saratoga Performing Arts Center's Junior Committee. Read on to see why she thinks their summer gala is going to a must-attend this summer.
1. Tell us about your earliest Saratoga memory.
I actually came to Saratoga for the first time when I was attending St. Lawrence to visit friends who were from the area. I liked it enough to keep coming back, and eventually move here!
2. The Saratoga Social was created to highlight the work of our local nonprofits. Which organization is most important to you?
There are so many great organizations in Saratoga, but since I'm currently President of the Junior Committee at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, my focus lately has been on them. The Junior Committee has great energy and I really enjoy working with all the members to raise funds for the classical season and children’s programming. We are very lucky to have SPAC in our community - it's such a special place!
3. Which spot in town serves your favorite drink or dish?
This is a really hard question for me - I love so many of our restaurants. I would have to say the Hamachi special at 15 Church and the Gamberoni Al Lardo Croccante from Chianti are my two consistent favorites!
4. Why is this year’s lawn party at the SPAC Ballet Gala going to be extra fabulous?
SPAC's Ballet Gala - from the inside gala to the lawn filled with beautifully decorated tents - is one of the more unique events. This year is going to be extra fabulous because we're celebrating SPAC's 50th Anniversary. My friends and I have already started ordering fun decorations for our tent to glam it up for the 1966 golden theme. I also am a huge fan of Justin Peck so I can't wait to see his world premiere ballet that evening.
5. What's the first app/website you open in the morning?
I'm a news addict so Safari - I hate being out of the loop.
6. "I consider Saratoga's greatest hidden gem to be..."
I definitely have to say the Patron's Club at SPAC. It's a beautiful spot and the food is always delicious. It's also a great place to have dinner during track season when things are crazy in town. I can't wait to see what's on the menu this summer!
